Karachi Coastal Power Plant
Desalination Plant at Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (K-2 & K-3)

Client: Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (K-2 & K-3)
Location: Karachi, Pakistan
Project Type: Desalination Plant
Capacity: 2.6 Million Gallons per Day (MGD)
Project Duration: 2019–2020
Current Status: Operational
In 2019, Orient Water Technologies was entrusted with designing and commissioning a high-capacity desalination plant for the Karachi Coastal Power Plant’s K-2 and K-3 units. With a treatment capacity of 2.6 Million gallons per day, the plant was developed to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of process-grade water for critical operations.

To meet the plant’s demanding requirements, a multi-stage treatment process was deployed, including:

  • Seawater Intake and Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)
  • Disk filtration
  • Ultrafiltration (UF) for fine particulate removal
  • Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO)
  • Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) for polishing and final quality assurance

This integrated system was engineered for efficiency, durability, and minimal environmental impact, ensuring optimized energy use and consistent output quality.
The desalination plant was successfully completed in 2020 and is currently in full operation. It continues to deliver high-quality water for Coastal operations, helping ensure plant safety, sustainability, and operational continuity.
